Student's Choice Book Club—Wednesday, October 29 after school in the library

English 10Quiz on War on October 30.  Complete Theme Collage for the short story—War and The Sniper—to hand in by the end of class October 31.   

English 9 HonorsComplete Theme Collage for the short story—War—to hand in at the end of class October 31.  Discuss letter assignment and project, and sign out class novels.  Read to at least page 75 for November 4.

English 9Period 8 will hand in descriptive paragraphs on October 28.  Students will do grammar work—naming and identifying verbs, and then recognizing and correcting run-on sentences using coordinating conjunctions.  Students will do verb and sentence grammar work.  Period 8 will do a predicting exercise.  Both classes will also work on the skill of inference.   Remember to bring your independent reading novels each class!

English 8Period 6 will hand in descriptive paragraphs on October 28.  They will work on the skill of inference.  All the classes will play an inference game on the short story—Lamb to the Slaughter.  Remember to bring your independent reading novels each class!

English 10:  Read War.  Discuss summary of key points in War.

English 9 Honors:  Discuss summary of key points in War.  Explain theme collage.

English 9:  Period 4—Check figures of speech examples on October 20 and Period 8 on October 21.  Hand in descriptive paragraph:  Period 4—October 22 and Period 8 October 28. Paragraphs must be word-processed or printed in ink.

Period 8:  Periods 1 and 2—Check figures of speech examples on October 20 and Period 6 on October 21.  Hand in descriptive paragraph:  Periods 1 and 2—October 22 and Period 8 October 28.  Periods 1 and 2 begin predicting exercise in The Dare.  Paragraphs must be word-processed or printed in ink.

English 9 Honors:  Quick preparation for Story Wars for the short story—The Possibility of Evil.  Discuss character and irony worksheets.  Read War and for October 21, write a paragraph that summarizes the points the author makes about war.

English 9:  Hand in charts for All Summer in a Day.  Work on figurative devices worksheet.  Hand in first class next week. 

English 8:  Period 6 will do verb test on October 14 and Period 1 and 2 on October 17.  Discuss using the thesaurus and literary devices.  Work on figurative devices worksheet.  Hand in first class next week.

English 10:  Read All Summer in a Day and focus on meaning and writing style.  Complete the T-chart. Read The Possibility of Evil and collect evidence for "Story Wars."

English 9 Honors:  Complete the T-chart on All Summer in a Day.  Define evil.  Create a dropbox and put a picture in my dropbox that shows evil.  Discuss the slideshow.  Read The Possibility of Evil and collect evidence for "Story Wars."

English 9:  Period 8 will go to the library to get silent reading books on October 7 and Period 4 will go on October 8.  The students will receive the silent reading assignment.  Period 8—complete rough copy of the descriptive paragraph on the artifact.  Start chart on All Summer in a Day. 

English 8:  Bring silent reading books to class every day.  Complete identifying and naming verb types.  Do practice sheet 1 and 2 to prepare for the test.  Period 6 will do practice sheet 3.  Do another descriptive writing practice on "The cats fought."  Read The Dare and discuss the ending.
